Intermountain Electric Inc. (IME) is seeking an Operational Controls Specialist to join their growing team!

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities:

Project start-up:  Collaborate with the project team to define means and methods for project scope, potentially leading this process.  Establish and maintain accurate project files and documentation in accordance with IME standards.  Set up project controls for large projects, including work breakdown structures, project schedules, and productivity tracking.  Configure control packages for assigned projects.  Analyze field takeoff data to identify imbalances, surpluses, and deficiencies compared to bid estimates.  Identify potential project design and construction elements that may lead to disputes or claims.

Job Productivity and maintenance:  Manage project data in the Intermountain Productivity Tracker (IPT), ensuring ongoing monitoring and maintenance.  Analyze job productivity at the task level, including tracking new and outstanding change orders.  Assist with the entry of change orders into IPT and report productivity changes or concerns to senior leadership.  Track and report key project control metrics, including Earned Value, Schedule Performance Index, schedule variance, resource allocation, and utilization.  Perform resource leveling analyses as required.  Coordinate with Project Managers to obtain weekly and monthly productivity and schedule updates.  Assist Project Managers in providing accurate project forecasting.  Conduct project audits in collaboration with project management and field leadership.

Contract Administration:  Prepare, review, and administer contracts, including subcontracts, change orders, and vendor agreements.  Ensure all contracts comply with company policies and relevant legal regulations.  Monitor contract status, deadlines, and deliverables to ensure timely execution.

 

Collaboration & Communication:  Serve as the primary liaison between clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams regarding contractual matters.  Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and legal advisors to interpret and address contract requirements.  Promptly communicate potential risks or issues to leadership for resolution.

 

Documentation & Reporting:  Maintain complete and accurate records of contracts, amendments, change orders, and compliance documents.  Collaborate  with project teams to track costs, budgets, and timelines.  Prepare and distribute clear concise reports summarizing contract status, progress and potential issues.

 

Compliance & Risk Management:  Ensure that subcontractors and vendors meet all contractual requirements, including insurance and licensing.  Proactively identify potential risk within contract terms and recommend mitigation strategies.  Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and industry best practices.

 

Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements across contracts, productivity tracking, and financial workflows to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall operational performance.

Demonstrated accomplishments in the following areas:

 

  • Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling, and monitoring/control methods and best practices.
  • Extensive field experience in creating detailed construction schedules and coordinating them with engineering and procurement activities.
  • Proficiency in critical path scheduling, estimating, and document control.
  • Advanced computer skills with expertise in MS Office Suite, MS Project, Bluebeam, DocuSign, and working knowledge of Procore.
  • Experience assisting with project planning and managing project documentation.
  • Basic scheduling experience including maintaining project schedules, CPM scheduling, tracking progress at a task level, and understanding workflows/predecessor activities.
  • Knowledge of cost controls and budgeting including monitoring project costs, preparing estimates, and effectively identifying and communicating overruns and risks.
  • Basic understanding of construction contracts, commercial terms, and project management principles.
  • Basic knowledge of construction law, liability insurance, payment and performance bonds, liens, and warranties.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret contracts and identify discrepancies. 
  • Basic Understanding of the electrical construction process, terminology, milestones, and deadlines.

 

Education & Experience:

 

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in construction management, related degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Field experience as an industrial and/or commercial electrician, highly preferred.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in project coordination, scheduling, cost controls, and budgeting experience, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, construction management, or a related field (preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in contract administration or coordination, ideally in the construction industry.

What You'll Get

Working Conditions:

Your time will be sent on construction job sites and in an office setting. When on construction job sites you will encounter typical construction conditions including extreme temperatures, noise, dust, mud debris, welding, leading edge, trenching, and shoring, sometimes in a confined space.  You may be required to visit multiple locations during any one day.

IME provides an industry-leading comprehensive benefits package.  Full-time employees are eligible to choose from a variety of healthcare coverage options, which become effective the first of the month after hire.  In addition, employees are offered a substantial amount of PTO and are immediately eligible to make contributions to a generously matched and fully vested 401k. 

 

Salary Range:  $80,750 - $114,000

 *Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.*
