  • Conduct end-to-end and function testing of substation equipment, including transformers, breakers, relay panels, and RTUs.
  • Oversee scheme testing (breaker failure, reclosing logic, interlocks), setpoint validation, and advanced logic verification.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of 2–5 Substation Testing Technicians.
  • Interpret and verify electrical drawings, relay settings, and system schematics to ensure accurate installation and operation.
  • Operate and program relay test equipment and software (Omicron, Doble, Vanguard, Test Universe, Protection Suite, RTS, etc.).
  • Perform communication protocol testing and troubleshooting (GOOSE, SCADA, DNP3, Modbus, Wireshark, ASE 2000, etc.).
  • Support retrofit and upgrade projects involving protective relaying, DFRs, RTUs, IEDs, SCADA, and related communication systems.
  • Conduct pre-energization safety checks and confirm equipment is safe and compliant for service.
  • Manage field logistics, resource allocation, schedules, and coordination with engineering and construction teams.
  • Generate comprehensive reports describing test results, issues found, and corrective actions taken or proposed.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety procedures, initiating stop-work authority when needed.

What You'll Bring

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Education: Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years in substation relay and control testing and commissioning, with at least 5 years in a foreman or leadership role.
  • Advanced knowledge of substation protection and control systems, including relays, RTUs, breakers, and transformers.
