Position Summary

Probst Electric is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This role will support the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with internal controls and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction or project-based accounting and thrive in a team-oriented, deadline-driven environment.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, assisting in month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Monitor receivable transactions, including cash receipt processing and customer setup management.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements with internal records to verify cash balances and identify variances.
  • Post payments, resolve billing discrepancies, and communicate with Project Managers regarding outstanding balances.
  • Prepare journal entries, perform account reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits with timely and accurate documentation.
  • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Perform tie-outs of intercompany accounts to ensure proper balancing and reconciliation across entities.
  • Recommend and assist in implementing process improvements for greater efficiency and accuracy.

What You'll Bring

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or electrical contracting
  • Strong understanding of job costing and WIP (Work in Progress) accounting
  • Proficiency in JD Edwards Software
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Team-oriented with a proactive and adaptable mindset
