About this Role

MATES in Construction Australia is working with the US construction industry to investigate the feasibility of piloting the MATES in Construction program in the US. The first stage of the project is to establish a detailed plan for a pilot program. Key to the pilot program will be engaging the right stakeholders and contributors in the US to support adaptation of the Australian model to a new and different context. This will include engaging:

  • US Government agencies and regulatory bodies to ensure the program meets regulatory requirements and industry standards, and to ensure we are informed by and aligned to current health and safety policy objectives and funding opportunities
  • Academics, researchers and subject matter experts to inform a valid evidence base of need for suicide prevention and contemporary, best-practice responses, in the US construction industry
  • Construction industry representatives e.g. unions, trade associations and employers to ensure program adaptation aligns to industry and also engages them as investors in supporting ongoing delivery
  • Health and community support organizations to understand the existing landscape of services available to construction workers at risk of suicide, and to determine how the MATES model will integrate into this environment
