About this Role

R.R. Cassidy is looking for a Substation Foreman who is responsible for overseeing, supervising and participating in electrical work performed at substations. You are responsible for managing and directing the activities of all Substation Electricians, Lineman, Groundman, and are expected to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment to ensure that the quality and quantity of work performed is in compliance with applicable safety standards and operating policies. The hazardous conditions of working near energized equipment in substations are extremely critical factors of this job. Work is strenuous and requires bending, stooping, and heavy lifting. Frequent travel is required.

What You'll Do

  • Assemble and Erect Substations.
  • Assesses and adjusts priorities and refocus efforts as needed to meet individual project requirements and workload.
  • Provide a framework of various levels of training and experience to be used when recruiting staff.
  • Conduct project review and planning with Project Manager/Superintendent.
  • Review schematics and specifications; ensures drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use.
  • Provide material takeoffs.
  • Maintain inventory usage and materials used on jobs.
  • Coordinate or prepare shipment of materials and supplies for job sites.
  • Install system components and wiring in compliance with the Company
  • standards, and Client Contract Standards.
  • Proposes changes or modifications to plans to enhance operation.
  • Schedule critical and non-critical activities effectively for project success.
  • Manage and schedule assigned staff.
  • Conduct and record daily tailgate/toolbox/safety meetings.
  • Responsible for upkeep and safe-keep of all equipment and tools assigned for
  • substation construction.
  • Responsible for training assigned staff on installation of substation material,
  • equipment.
  • Responsible for training assigned staff on proper usage and safety on all
  • equipment and tools.
  • Develop goals and priorities; assigns tasks and projects.
  • Planning and initiating projects.
  • Establish and implement OSHA and Customer Safety Requirements.

What You'll Bring

  • Journeyman License
  • 6+years of substation experience
  • Must have a valid CDL.
  • NCCCO certification is preferred
  • Adheres to all Company Safety and Health Policies
  • Must be willing to stay out of town. Typical work weeks are 4–10-hour shifts or 5-10 hour shifts.  Available to travel as the project requires. 
  • Willing to work over-time and be able to work extended periods of time.  
  • May work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems.
  • May attend training classes or seminars to gather knowledge of new processes, safety regulations and/or refresher training.
  • Walking and working across uneven terrain.
  • Climbing on and off large trucks and equipment.
  • Must be able to work outside 100% of the time. We work in inclement weather that includes heat, cold, rain and possible snow. 
  • Able to lift in excess 50 pounds on a daily basis. 
  • Willing to work off the ground in man baskets. Normal working heights are 20’-60’ with the possibility of working at 120’ heights.
  • Must be able to work around energized systems.
