Certified Flagger Underground Laborer

A Flagger Underground Laborer is a hybrid construction worker role who primarily directs traffic around underground construction sites while performing manual labor tasks. These tasks include digging, trenching, and assisting with the installation of underground utilities such as cables or pipes. This role often requires working in confined spaces and adhering to safety protocols for underground operations.

Flaggers Certification is required to obtain this position as well as 1 to 2 years’ experience performing the job duties

Traffic Control:

• Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic using hand signals, flags, and traffic cones around the underground construction zone.
• Communicate with drivers to ensure safe passage through the work area.
• Set up and maintain traffic control devices like barricades and warning signs.

Underground Labor Tasks:

• Hand dig using shovel, mechanical tools.
• Install and maintenance of underground telecommunications cabling.
• Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
• Working in congested or remote areas.
• Maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
• Perform general construction work under direction of Foreman/Supervisor.
• Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies.
• Learn all aspects of crew and assist the operator and foreman as assigned.
• Setup, preparation, and cleanup of construction sites.
• Develop an understanding of buried utilities.
• Lift heavy equipment and supplies
• TRAVEL IS REQUIRED

Safety Compliance:

• Adhere to all safety regulations for underground construction, including confined space entry procedures.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, and high-visibility clothing.
• Report any safety hazards or concerns to the supervisor.

Required Skills

• Must possess a flaggers certification card
• Must have 1 to 2 years’ experience flagging and underground laborer
• Clearly communicate with drivers and other workers to direct traffic safely.
• Attention to Detail
• Maintain proper placement of traffic control devices and ensure safety standards are met.
• Basic Understanding of Construction Practices
• Knowledge of underground utility installation procedures.

Position Qualifications:

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Report.
• Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.
• Clean driving record (no more than 2 tickets in the last 5 years)
• Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.
• Class A CDL is a PLUS (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders).
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
• Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
• EAGER TO WORK AND WILLING TO TRAVEL
• MUST POSSESS A FLAGGERS CERTIFICATION CARD

• Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry.
• Able to perform all duties in telecommunication construction.
• TRAVEL IS A MUST

​​​​​​Working Conditions

This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. The role operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high winds. The work environment will vary throughout the day, including changes in terrain, traffic, urban, and rural settings. There may be occasional exposure to natural gas and the risk of electrical shock, as well as moderate to loud noise levels.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to stand for long periods (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate extreme weather conditions, and follow worksite safety instructions. The role requires prolonged and repeated activities such as lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, feeling, crouching, and crawling. The employee must be able to regularly lift 50 pounds.

Compensation Range

The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $18.00/Hr. - USD $26.00/Hr., depending on experience and qualifications.

Pay is based on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the employee.
