About this Role

Northstar Energy Solutions is looking for a highly skilled Estimator to join our Gas Operations team in Grand Prairie, TX. As a proud member of the Quanta Services family, NorthStar specializes in transmission, energized work, distribution, substation construction, foundations, gas infrastructure, and telecommunications, with safety at the core of everything we do. Our Gas Distribution crews install, maintain, repair, and test gas lines for utility customers across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The Estimator will develop accurate, competitive bids and cost estimates for gas distribution projects, working closely with Gas Operations leadership, superintendents, and general foremen, to price work that can be built safely, efficiently, and profitably.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and bids for natural gas distribution projects, including new poly and steel gas line installations, gas line replacements, meter relocations, leak repairs, and cathodic protection.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings, maps, work orders, and scopes of work.
  • Develop labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing, including excavation, boring, and joint use trench work.
  • Review bid documents, unit-price schedules, and customer contract requirements to identify scope, risks, assumptions, and exclusions.
  • Partner with Gas Operations leadership, superintendents, and general foremen to validate crew composition, productivity, means and methods, and equipment needs.
  • Build and maintain unit-price and cost databases using actual field production and cost data to improve estimate accuracy over time.
  • Support proposal preparation, bid clarifications, and pricing negotiations with utility customers.
  • Assist with change order pricing and provide estimating support to project teams during execution.
  • Reinforce NorthStar’s safety-first culture by ensuring estimates account for safety, operator qualification (OQ), and regulatory requirements on active gas systems.

What You'll Bring

  • Working knowledge of gas distribution construction methods and live-gas work practices.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, utility maps, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Excel; comfortable working with large data sets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with, operations leaders, and customers.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A self-starter mindset with the drive to take ownership of your work and contribute to a team that rewards excellence.
  • driver’s license and the ability to travel to job sites and customer offices as needed.

Educational/Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience considered in lieu of degree.
  • AACE Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or ASPE Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) certification a plus.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 and First Aid/CPR preferred.
