The Master Trainer elevates Irby Construction’s training standards through high-impact, technical, compliance-based, and capability-based training that reflects the realities of utility construction. This position reinforces continuous improvement, operational excellence, and cultural leadership while helping ensure every team member returns home better than when they started.

This is a hands-on technical training position requiring significant field expertise in transmission and distribution power line construction. The successful candidate must bring practical utility construction knowledge and the credibility to train crews, apprentices, supervisors, and operational leaders in both classroom and active field environments. This is not a general soft-skills training position.

The Master Trainer must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to speak, understand, communicate, and deliver technical instruction effectively in both languages across multiple subject areas.

The Master Trainer upholds Irby training standards and serves in an advisory capacity for employee readiness and continuous improvement. The position recommends readiness for various certifications, while final certification decisions remain centralized, and is empowered to stop unsafe work during training, audits, or live coaching sessions. Master Trainers collaborate across regions to maintain consistency, technical accuracy, and quality across all curricula.

• Technical Training Delivery – Priority: Deliver classroom and hands-on field training across multiple utility construction disciplines, with an emphasis on transmission and distribution power line construction, safe work practices, technical capability, and field execution.
• Deliver technical training in both English and Spanish, adapting instruction as necessary to ensure comprehension and consistent application across diverse crews.
• Conduct training focused on, but not limited to, Insulate & Isolate practices, Grounding & Bonding procedures, Capacity Model training, Incident Investigation processes, crew communication, and field leadership.
• Facilitate capability-based technical training clinics during live work based on observed crew needs, skill gaps, and operational requirements.
• Field Support – Priority: Provide hands-on coaching to crews, apprentices, supervisors, and field leadership in classroom and active field settings to reinforce safety, technical competency, and operational excellence.
• Evaluate field practices, identify training opportunities, and provide immediate coaching or corrective guidance when appropriate.
• Conduct pre-training and post-training evaluations to identify technical development needs and reinforce learned skills.
• Continuous Improvement – Priority: Gather feedback from field leadership and crews to identify technical gaps, emerging needs, and opportunities to improve training effectiveness.
• Propose and implement enhancements to training methods, technical materials, field exercises, and delivery approaches.
• Personally participate in training and field-development activities to maintain current technical knowledge and model continuous learning.
• Curriculum Collaboration: Partner with fellow Master Trainers and operational subject-matter experts to maintain current, technically accurate curricula aligned with field practices and company standards.
• Assist in developing job aids, capability checklists, field reference materials, QR-based resources, micro-modules, and other technical training tools.
• Trainer Development: Support train-the-trainer initiatives by sharing best practices and coaching other trainers on technical content, classroom facilitation, and field instruction.
• Promote consistency in technical training delivery across all regions.
• Compliance & Documentation: Maintain accurate, trackable records of training schedules, completions, participation, and capability development.
• Ensure training aligns with OSHA, Quanta, Irby, and applicable utility-industry standards.
• Maintain trackable monthly training schedules and completion records, including participation metrics, and provide quarterly feedback reports summarizing field observations, training needs, and leadership input.
• Cultural Leadership: Serve as an ambassador for Irby’s safety culture, training vision, and commitment to technical excellence.
• Mentor apprentices and field employees, promoting confidence, capability, retention, and career development.
• Build strong relationships with operational leaders to ensure training reflects real-world construction needs and current field conditions.
• Travel regularly and extensively to Irby project locations and regional operations throughout the United States based on workforce and training needs.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Corporate Training Manager.
• Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Journeyman Lineman certification, technical training credential, or degree in a related field preferred. Equivalent utility construction experience, or a combination of work and education, may be substituted.
• Extensive hands-on technical experience in transmission and distribution power line construction is required. Candidates must possess practical knowledge of the materials, methods, equipment, field practices, and safety requirements associated with utility line construction.
• Experience must extend beyond training alone; the successful candidate must have the field credibility and technical depth necessary to effectively instruct experienced utility construction professionals.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is required. Candidate must be able to speak, understand, communicate, coach, and deliver technical instruction fluently and effectively in both English and Spanish.
• Ability to deliver training across multiple technical subjects in both classroom and field environments.
• Experience with substation construction and/or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is preferred.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and Quanta and Irby internal standards, including Insulate & Isolate practices, Grounding & Bonding procedures, and incident investigation processes.
• Experience delivering classroom and hands-on field training to crews, supervisors, apprentices, and operational leaders.
• Ability to coach, mentor, and influence employees at all levels of the organization.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly and on an ongoing basis throughout the United States wherever Irby crews and projects are located.
• Ability to work effectively in field environments, including active utility construction sites and varying outdoor conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem evaluation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with field employees, operational leadership, customers, and other stakeholders.
• Strong technical presentation, facilitation, and hands-on demonstration skills.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.

Location / Working Conditions

This position is classified as a field-based role. The employee may reside anywhere within the United States.

The position requires regular, ongoing nationwide travel to project sites, field operations, and training locations based on business and workforce needs. Candidates must be comfortable working directly alongside field crews in active transmission, distribution, and other utility construction environments.
