As part of your role, travel is expected and required. This is a field position, and you will be responsible for working at various sites as necessary, including locations in multiple states.

 

The Bridge Crew Laborer will support all phases of bridge construction, repair, and maintenance work, including work performed at height. Duties will include but are not limited to general labor duties related to bridge construction as directed by the Foreman or Supervisor.

 

Work may include placing and tying rebar, form setting and stripping, concrete placement and finishing, structural steel and deck work, scaffolding and shoring setup, working from elevated platforms, lifts, and suspended access equipment, and general site support for bridge new-build, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects.

What You'll Do

Daily Responsibilities

All phases of bridge construction include but are not limited to: loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal, and placement of various types, sizes, and weights of construction materials and equipment.

  • Perform work at height, including on scaffolding, elevated platforms, aerial lifts, and suspended access equipment, using proper fall protection at all times.
  • Hand dig using shovels and mechanical tools.
  • Set, tie, and strip rebar and formwork; assist with concrete placement and finishing.
  • Assist with structural steel erection and bridge deck work.
  • Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Work in congested, remote, and elevated or overhead areas.
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with other crewmembers and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
  • Perform general construction work under the direction of the Foreman/Supervisor.
  • Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies, including fall protection and height-safety requirements.
  • Learn all aspects of crew work and assist the operator and foreman as assigned.
  • Setup, preparation, and cleanup of construction sites.
  • Develop an understanding of bridge structures, materials, and methods.
  • Lift heavy equipment and supplies.

What You'll Bring

Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Class A CDL preferred, or willingness and ability to obtain one (higher wage scales apply to CDL holders).
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Clean driving record (no more than 2 tickets in the last 5 years).
  • Successful completion of Quanta/RBC Safety compliance training and onboarding, including fall protection/working-at-heights certification (or willingness to complete).
  • Comfortable and able to safely work at height as a routine part of the job.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • 2 to 3 years' experience in bridge, structural, or heavy civil construction preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.

Work Environment

This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day, including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, rural settings, and elevated/overhead work areas. This position involves regular work at height and may occasionally involve exposure to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.

Physical Requirements

The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, and withstand prolonged and repeated lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling. The employee must be able to safely work at height, including on ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and elevated structures, using required fall protection equipment. The employee will need to be able to regularly lift 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation Range

The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $18.00/Hr. - USD $26.00/Hr., depending on experience and qualifications. Pay is based on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the employee.
