About this Role

The Estimator I – BESS supports the development of cost estimates and proposals for large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This entry-level role focuses on developing foundational estimating skills in the electrical and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) disciplines, while learning to interpret design documents, assess constructability, and contribute to accurate project cost modeling.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in preparing preliminary cost estimates for BESS and Data Center projects under supervision.
  • Review proposal documents, drawings, single-line diagrams, and electrical one-lines to identify project requirements.
  • Support material take-offs, vendor quote requests, and subcontractor scope development.
  • Maintain records of estimates, design updates, and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in pre-bid site visits and virtual meetings to assess project conditions.
  • Assist with identifying risks, schedule constraints, and constructability factors specific to BESS and mission-critical projects.
  • Learn to read and analyze KMZ files, BOMs, submittals, and engineering specifications.
  • Support preparation of RFP responses and bid documentation.
  • Participate in project cost forecasting and cash flow exercises.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong interest in electrical systems, renewable energy, and data infrastructure projects.
  • Basic understanding of estimating principles, cost modeling, and project documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, and general computer literacy.
  • Detail-oriented and analytical with strong organizational skills.

Preferred

  • 2 years of experience in estimating, design, or field engineering for electrical, industrial, or renewable energy projects.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Procore, or Accubid is a plus.

Physical Qualifications

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to project sites for pre-bid meetings and site assessments.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 20 pounds (e.g., project documents, laptop).
  • Must be able to navigate construction sites safely when visiting field locations.
