  • Overview

    The Sr. Operations Engineer role is to lead various infrastructure related projects involving infrastructure, business applications, database, network and various other technologies. This role will ensure projects and solutions are implemented following company IT standards and best practices while meeting defined timelines. This may involve technical architecture design, project manager and hands-on technical tasks depending on project and resources. This individual should possess a broad experience in IT, i.e. project management, cloud architecture, database administration, systems administration, security risk assessment, etc. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of Infrastructure initiatives that are consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. This individual must be able to adapt to changing technology and need to stay at the forefront on leading IT systems and solutions.

    Responsibilities

    • Support, design and implement solutions for Infrastructure
    • Support platforms residing on virtual platforms including public cloud, VMWare, Hyper-V and OVM in addition to stand alone server environments
    • Support platforms residing on Oracle Exadata and Oracle PCA
    • Manages and coordinates the activities of a project or solution to ensure that goals and objectives of the project are accomplished within a specified time frame
    • Develops, recommends and implements necessary improvements and changes
    • May coordinate the scheduling of all projects both in-house and with outside vendors
    • Maintain records of project activities to ensure progress is made toward project objectives and deadlines
    • Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance
    • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers and escalate incidents as necessary
    • Practice server and storage asset management, including maintenance of server and storage component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
    • Analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance
    • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases
    • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts
    • Participate in negotiations with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and services
    • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use

    Qualifications

    Required Eductation and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Minimum of 5 years cloud infrastructure experience
    • Minimum of 5 years server administration experience (Design, Implement, Upgrade, Support, Maintain)
    • Minimum 5 years of project management experience
    • Minimum 3 years application development or similar experience
    • Experience working with IT Service Management systems
    • Experience working with IT Asset Management systems

    Licenses / Certifications:

    • ITIL Foundation - preferred
    • MCITP – preferred
    • PMP - preferred

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Experience with Azure deployment, maintenance and architecture for infrastructure – Advanced Level
    • Experience with AWS deployment, maintenance and architecture for infrastructure – Advanced Level
    • Experience with supporting data centers operations – Advanced Level
    • Experience in software development and architecture – Intermediate Level
    • Experience with project management and leading projects – Advanced Level
    • Knowledge in managing server hardware including blade technology (i.e., Dell M1000e and HP C7000 Series Chassis) – Intermediate Level
    • In depth experience in Microsoft Windows Server administration (i.e., Windows Server 2008 – 2012 R2) – Advanced Level
    • Experience in Windows based environment – Advanced Level
    • Experience in Linux based environment – Intermediate Level
    • Experience configuring Windows Server (2008 and up), SQL Server and IIS – Intermediate Level
    • Experience with Active Directory, Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), SAML, claims, web Single Sign-on (SSO), OAuth and related authentication technologies – Intermediate Level
    • Experience working with service delivery methodologies (ITIL) – Intermediate Level
    • Experience with End Point Protection – Intermediate Level
    • Experience in automation and scripting: PowerShell, VBScript – Intermediate Level
    • Practical experience sizing hardware and storage needs
    • Performance analysis, troubleshooting and remediation techniques
    • High Availability and Disaster Recovery principles, patterns and usage
