    The Application Database Administrator role is responsible for the availability, security, support and integrity of the Quanta Services database platforms.  This includes implementation and maintenance of Oracle databases, support to operating units and use of various management tools.  The ideal candidate would have a background in database design and architecture, data modeling, database tuning, performance troubleshooting and development best practices.

     

    The Application Database Administrator will support database design, data modeling, implementation and maintenance, performance and tuning, and database system availability. Installs, configures, supports and maintains systems, applications. Assists and resolves performance issues. Monitors and tunes databases and operational environment for capacity, performance and availability. Reviews and enforces standards, procedures and guidelines for usage and techniques for database management software. Provides consultation, workshops, training and education in database management practices. Provides consultation and resolutions for database problems.

    This position requires a seasoned and experienced individual with adequate understanding of the job area. Work is performed independently and under limited supervision. Determines approach to work and is supervised based on milestones and at key deliverable junctures. Work is reviewed for overall accuracy and soundness of judgement. Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity. Frequently applies technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.  Works closely and coordinates with the Enterprise Application Integration team and other Application teams.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Application DBA functions: do assessment, plan & promote database changes proposed by Application teams, bottlenecks analysis, outage prevention/resolution, and server/database performance improvements.
    • Database development (stored procedures, ETL, tools) and queries/stored procedures review and optimization
    • Enforce database security, standards & guidelines
    • Enterprise database design and modeling for both transactional and analytical platforms
    • Skill sets include (but not limited to) database tuning, manage/support database release cycles, ensure the availability, stability and performance of all database environments which include Development, QA, UAT,  production and disaster recovery databases.
    • Fine tune applications and systems for high performance and higher volume throughput
    • General operational expertise such as good troubleshooting skills, understanding of system’s capacity, bottlenecks, basics of memory, CPU, OS, storage, and networks.
    • Involves designing, capacity arrangement, cluster set up, performance fine-tuning, monitoring, structure planning, scaling and administration.
    • Include DBA Responsibilities like data modeling, design and implementation, software installation and configuration, database backup and recovery, database connectivity and security.
    •  Verifies all scheduled jobs have completed successfully
    • Inspects error logs for unusual events
    • Resolves blocking, deadlocking, log shipping, connectivity or security issues
    • Refreshes non-production environments
    • Troubleshoots and resolves database integrity, performance issues
    • Performance tuning and query optimization
    • Administers database user and role security in addition to file system security
    • Plans/forecasts capacity needs for Oracle environment
    • Installs, configures, monitors and troubleshoots Oracle systems in stand-alone and clustered configurations
    • Works closely with application/system administration and vendors to coordinate activities, resolve development and maintenance issues
    • Participates in quarterly patch management routines
    • Prepares change management documentation for production environment changes
    • Maintains database documentation and standards
    • Leverage data modeling tool and code repository to maintain current designs and deployments.

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent preferred, but comparable work experience will be considered.
    • Minimum of 5 years of Oracle database administration experience (all versions from Oracle 10g to 18c, knowledge about Data Guard, RAC, ASM and RMAN is a plus).
    • Minimum of 5 years total database administration experience (Stored Procedures, Triggers, Tuning, etc.).
    • Minimum of 5 years of data modeling and database design experience
    • Minimum of 5 years of database performance tuning.
    • Minimum of 3 years of database administration experience, with Microsoft SQL Server, (all versions from 2005 to 2017), must include some experience tuning Transact-SQL.
    • Oracle Certified Associate - Preferred
    • ITIL Foundation – Preferred
    • Experience administering complex 24x7 database environments
    • Proven understanding of clustering concepts, features, limitations and implementations
    • Experience with supporting and executing a high availability disaster recovery design – Intermediate level
    • Experience in Linux Server administration, Windows Server is a plus – Intermediate level
    • Experience working with service delivery methodologies (ITIL) – Intermediate Level
    • Experience in documenting and high level database presentation – Intermediate Level
