About this Role

The Field Mechanic at Service Electric Company travels throughout their assigned region and is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of construction vehicles and heavy equipment/machinery. This role supports field operations by ensuring all vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and compliant with regulatory standards. Work is performed primarily at job sites.

What You'll Do

· Perform routine maintenance and repairs on commercial vehicles, including pickup trucks, medium/heavy-duty trucks, bucket trucks, and other equipment.

· Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.

· Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair aerial lift systems, booms, outriggers, and related components.

· Conduct preventative maintenance (PM) services to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

· Respond to field service calls and perform on-site repairs as needed.

· Travel with storm crews, as needed.

· Ensure all vehicles meet DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards.

· Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders.

· Coordinate with operations and fleet management to prioritize repairs and minimize disruption.

· Manage parts inventory and communicate parts needs in a timely manner.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

· Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

· High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required; technical or trade school certification preferred.

· 5+ years of experience working on commercial vehicles or heavy equipment.

· Experience with hydraulic systems and aerial equipment (bucket trucks) strongly preferred.

· Strong knowledge of diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, braking systems, and diagnostics.

· Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and technical documents.

· Strong organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.

· Ability to identify and solve issues.

· Good interpersonal skills.

· Self-motivated.

· Capable of handling multiple projects concurrently with good time management.

· Ability to conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of SEC, working effectively in a diverse work environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position requires:

• Regular presence in a shop settings and active construction field environments, including outdoor job sites subject to variable weather and terrain conditions.

• Ability to traverse rough or uneven terrain and access construction work zones in compliance with all applicable safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements.

• The ability to drive to and from work sites and could include long periods of driving.

• Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks

• Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working at heights (for equipment inspection)

• Ability to work overtime, weekend work, and on-call availability for emergency repairs
