Our multidisciplinary team combines the expertise of structural and geotechnical engineers with experienced drillers, construction managers, geologists, and quality management specialists.

About this Role

Crux Subsurface is hiring a Project Manager in San Diego to lead geotechnical construction projects across Southern California. You'll run execution from mobilization through closeout — schedules, costs, field operations, and owner relationships. You're the primary point of contact for everyone on your projects, and you're expected to deliver.

Medical, Dental, Vision, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, Basic Life Insurance Provided with Premium Cost Share between employer and employee.

401k and Roth contribution with company match eligibility.

Vacation and Sick Leave accrual in accordance with company plans.

What You'll Do

  • Project Execution — Lead projects from kickoff through closeout. Own the schedule, the budget, the subs, and the result.
  • Cost & Schedule Control — Track financials, forecast costs, manage change orders, and get ahead of problems before they hit margin.
  • Field Coordination — Work directly with superintendents and crews to keep production on track and resolve issues in real time.
  • Owner & Engineer Interface — Run owner communications, RFIs, and submittals with technical credibility. You represent Crux on your projects.
  • Subcontractor & Vendor Management — Hold subs and suppliers accountable to scope, schedule, and quality.
  • Submittals & Documentation — Manage means and methods, design calculations, equipment plans, and material submittals.
  • Quality Oversight — Ensure work meets specs, codes, and company standards. Catch problems in the field, not on the punch list.
  • Safety Leadership — Safety performance is project performance. Enforce standards and lead by example on every site.
  • Billing & Closeout — Manage progress billing, retention, and closeout documentation. Keep cash flowing and projects closing clean.

What You'll Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of project management experience in geotechnical or heavy civil construction — you've managed foundation, shoring, or ground improvement work and you understand production, risk, and margin.
  • Working knowledge of deep foundation and earth retention methods — drilled shafts, driven piles, micropiles, anchors, soil nails, shotcrete, dewatering, grouting. You don't need to design them, but you need to know how they go in the ground and what drives cost.
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets from six figures to multi-million dollar scopes.
  • Strong field presence — credible with superintendents, crews, owners, and engineers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and scheduling tools.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites within Southern California. Valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • PE, EIT, or PMP certification.
  • Experience on prevailing wage / Davis-Bacon projects.
  • Familiarity with design-build or EPC delivery.
