About this Role

The Project Controls Specialist at Irby Construction Company supports the successful execution of large-scale utility projects by implementing and maintaining systems to monitor cost, schedule, and performance metrics. This role ensures alignment with project goals and regulatory requirements and serves as a key liaison between project management, subcontractors, and vendors.

 

What You'll Do

  • Monitor project progress and performance against baseline schedules and budgets.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on cost, schedule, and risk status to stakeholders.
  • Support forecasting and earned value analysis (EVA) to assess project health.
  • Collaborate with Project Management, Procurement, and Construction teams for accurate data integration.
  • Identify and analyze schedule and cost variances, recommending corrective actions.
  • Reconcile project deliverables including schedules, contract costs, invoicing, and production data.
  • Assist in change management processes, including impact analysis and documentation.
  • Contribute to risk management by identifying potential issues and suggesting mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, contractual obligations, and regulatory standards.
  • Support project close-out activities, including final cost reporting and lessons learned documentation.

What You'll Bring

Education & Experience

  • Proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Willingness to learn and develop proficiency in project management systems (EcoSys, HCSS, P6, MS Project, etc.).
  • Background in construction projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as PMI/AACEi.

 

Preferred

  • Degree in Construction Management, Finance, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in project controls, preferably in electric transmission or large infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with utility-scale transmission, distribution, substation, and BESS projects.
  • Familiarity with regulatory environments (e.g., FERC, NERC).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

 

Physical Qualifications

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to project sites for pre-bid meetings and site assessments.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 20 pounds (e.g., project documents, laptop).
  • Must be able to navigate construction sites safely when visiting field locations.
