About this Role

As a Senior Project Accountant, you will oversee the financial performance of assigned projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and proactive management throughout the project lifecycle. You’ll partner closely with Project Managers and cross-functional teams to track budgets, forecast results, analyze risks and opportunities, and provide clear financial insight that supports successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Financial Management: Own the financial lifecycle of complex projects, especially GMP contracts. Lead all billing activities, ensuring accuracy, contract compliance, and timely submission with full backup and lien documentation. Partner with Project Managers to own project forecasts, monitor costs vs. budgets, and assess profitability against the GMP cap. Identify risks, opportunities, and cost trends early, helping the team mitigate issues and capture savings. Collaborate directly with customers on audits, billing reviews, and change order reconciliations. Maintain clear visibility into pending changes, exposure logs, and project cash flow—owning DSO and driving timely collections. Work closely with Operations, Procurement, and Finance to ensure accurate coding, strong cost controls, and consistent documentation through project closeout.
  • Leadership & Training: Mentor Project Accountants providing guidance on billing, forecasting, and financial analysis. Review work for accuracy, support onboarding, and help standardize team practices. May manage a small team.
  • Process Improvement: Partner with Finance leadership to create and roll out consistent project accounting processes, tools, and templates that improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Systems & Data: Develop deep knowledge of JD Edwards and become the Excel expert for project tracking tools. Use Power BI insights effectively and support alignment of data across systems.
  • Procurement Alignment: Partner with Procurement and Operations to strengthen buyout tracking, PO accuracy, and cost accruals. Help define how Project Accountants support purchasing strategy.
  • Compliance & Audit: Maintain adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and audit requirements. Act as first contact for project audit requests and help ensure strong documentation controls.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Partner across Finance, Operations, and Project Management to share insights, streamline workflows, and resolve issues.
  • Continuous Growth: Contribute to developing team standards, training content, and performance metrics. Over time, transition from hands-on execution to a leadership and oversight role. Additional duties as assigned.
