About this Role

Payroll Specialist

Reports to: Finance Director
FLSA: Exempt

Intermountain Electric Inc. (IME) is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support our growing team!

The Payroll Specialist will learn and assist in payroll processing, compliance with federal and state regulations, and maintain accurate records. This role is designed for a motivated individual who is beginning their payroll career and will be trained and mentored by experienced team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Processing: Assist with weekly payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and legal requirements. Learn to maintain accurate payroll records and support resolution of payroll-related issues.
  • Tax Filings & Reports: Support preparation of payroll tax filings and reports (quarterly and year-end, such as W-2 and 1099 forms) under guidance.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with HR and Finance to ensure smooth payroll processes. Help new IME employees with payroll setup.
  • Audits: Provide documentation and support for payroll-related audits.
  • Month-End/Year-End Support: Assist with payroll-related reconciliations and reporting as part of the close process.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned while gaining hands-on payroll experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn payroll regulations, tax compliance, and labor laws
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity
  • Effective communication and ability to work well with others
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Familiarity with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, or similar) a plus, but not required

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related coursework preferred
  • Prior office, accounting, or payroll support experience helpful, but not required — training will be provided

Working Conditions

Most work will be performed in a typical office environment. Occasionally, you may travel to a construction job site and encounter typical construction conditions (e.g., noise, dust, temperature changes).

Salary Range

$59,500 – $80,500
Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.

Compensation Range

The anticipated compensation for this position is - depending on experience and qualifications.
