About this Role

Taylor’s Construction is seeking an experienced Mechanic to maintain, repair, and service the company’s fleet of vehicles and construction equipment used in fiber optic cable services, utility pole placement, and telecommunications construction. This role is critical to ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting field crews with safe and functional tools. The Mechanic will work primarily from a shop location but may travel to job sites as needed for field repairs.

What You'll Do

  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on company vehicles, trucks, trailers, and specialized construction equipment.
  • Service hydraulic systems, small engines, aerial lifts, and heavy-duty equipment used in telecom and utility construction.
  • Conduct regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and safety checks on fleet equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service records and inventory of parts in compliance with company standards.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and logistics staff to prioritize repairs and schedule preventative maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures in the field and perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety requirements when maintaining or operating vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist in training operators and field personnel in proper equipment use and basic maintenance practices.

What You'll Bring

  • 3+ years of mechanic experience with heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and/or construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems commonly used in telecom and utility construction.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and other vehicle components.
  • Familiarity with DOT inspection requirements and fleet maintenance programs.
  • Welding and fabrication skills, preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license with CDL certification, preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites for on-site repairs, preferred.
