About this Role

The Forward Deployed Engineering Manager (FDEM) is a senior, hands-on technical leader who drives high-impact solution delivery from concept to production. In this role, you will own one to two active projects at a time-leading technical discovery, shaping solution architecture, mentoring engineers, and delivering real business outcomes. This is not a people management role in the traditional sense. You'll be expected to dive into the code, contribute directly to solution delivery, and elevate those around you through technical coaching and architectural leadership.

What You'll Do

Serve as the technical lead on one or two critical initiatives at a time, driving execution end-to-end
Lead architectural and design decisions in close collaboration with business stakeholders
Translate ambiguous requirements into focused, testable deliverables
Write high-quality, production-ready code alongside your team
Use AI tooling to enhance speed, code quality, and knowledge-sharing
Identify risks early and guide teams through implementation challenges
Support junior Forward Deployed Engineers with mentorship, pairing, and code reviews
Balance business impact with engineering tradeoffs to make thoughtful decisions
Document solution architecture, design rationales, and lessons learned

What You'll Bring

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
10-15 years of experience in software engineering, systems design, or technical consulting, including recent experience in hands-on delivery and architecture

Licenses / Certifications:
None required
Cloud architecture or AI/ML certifications are a plus

Knowledge and Skills:
Advanced proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g. Python, TypeScript, Go, Java)
Deep understanding of software architecture patterns and solution-level design
Fluency in cloud technologies, system integrations, and full-stack development
Experience applying AI tooling (e.g. ChatGPT, Copilot, vector search, prompt engineering) in real workflows
Strong communication skills and ability to guide cross-functional stakeholders
Proven track record of mentoring engineers and growing technical talent
Bias toward execution, clarity, and simplicity in design
